The Musicalooza, previously the winter concert, was eventful, with dancing, singing, and awesome acting. We saw performances from all grades and some from the clubs like drama and band. It was held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at a church.
I interviewed Ms. Shkelqesa, the music teacher at Magellan International School.
Do you think that the Musicalooza was successful?
Yes, I think Musicalooza was successful, especially since students from both the PYP and MYP showcased their talents in singing, dancing, and acting while covering a variety of music genres. It was truly amazing to watch. From one performance to the next, and with the seamless transition performances in between, the audience was kept engaged the entire time. Some students were thrilled to be part of the show, while others felt a bit nervous, but it was a valuable learning experience that helped them grow. For some, it was a chance to step on stage, perform confidently, and feel a sense of satisfaction. The community feedback has been fantastic, with many praising the change in format, among other aspects.
Has anything changed besides the name?
This year’s format was different from previous years, with an MC presenting the performances and entertaining the audience while the performers got ready. Zayn did a fantastic job in this role. Another change was the involvement of MYP students, which was on a voluntary basis. The Elective Band, After-School Band, Dance Elective, and a small choir of girls also performed, which many found impressive.
How long have you been preparing for the Musicalooza?
The Arts Team had originally thought of a theme as early as spring 2024. However, after some changes, we began discussing the event in more detail starting in the second week of school. Once the plans were more clearly defined, we opened it up to interested students. Auditions for these students took place in late September, where they showcased various skills in different settings. The selected ones came in during recess to rehearse and receive feedback to improve their performances. Two weeks before Musicalooza, we held three additional rehearsals with each individual group. During the week of Musicalooza, we ran the show twice a day, with students coming in at specific times to perform and then leaving for class. It was a lot of work, but also incredibly rewarding!
