Magellan is in an exciting growth period and you’re invited aboard.

Exciting changes are underway at Magellan! Our new 14-acre Bull Creek Campus is now open, serving Kindergarten through High School. Graduates may earn the prestigious IB Diploma, the Global Impact Diploma (GID) or design their own unique pathway with a mix of both.

We welcome applications from non–Spanish-speaking students for entry into Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 6 through High School. Please note that for admission into Grades 1 through 5, a background in Spanish is required.

We are the only secular, independent school in the nation to offer the full International Baccalaureate Program — PYP, MYP, and DP — in a bilingual setting.
Magellan is one of Austin’s most diverse independent schools, bringing together families from across cultures, languages, and perspectives. More than 64% of our families identify as non-white.
Magellan is growing. In fall 2024, we opened our new Kindergarten through High School campus in Northwest Austin, followed by the expansion of our Preschool campus in spring 2025. Enrollment continues to grow across the school, particularly in Preschool, 6th grade, and 9th grade.

Does my child have to know Spanish?

If starting in Preschool through Kindergarten, no Spanish background is required.
If starting in 1st - 5th grade, students need to be able to read and write in Spanish at their grade level. Applicants will spend a half day on campus and during their visit they will be given a grade-level Spanish assessment to determine their eligibility for entrance.
If starting in grades 6 or higher, students join our Spanish language acquisition program where no previous Spanish experience is required through .

What is International Baccalaureate?
The International Baccalaureate is a set of challenging programs that aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

An IB education provides opportunities to develop both disciplinary and transdisciplinary understanding through curriculum frameworks and courses that are broad and balanced, conceptual and connected. The program provides an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education and is recognized by universities worldwide.
